Water treatment plant with Curieau® re-use technique PT Frisian Flag Indonesia Pasar Rebo officially opened

On March 2nd the new water treatment plant with Curieau® water re-use of Friesland Foods Frisian Flag Pasar Rebo has been officially opened. In presence of many guests, the Dutch Ambassador in Indonesia, Mr. Ten Dam, opened this special installation.

The PT Frisian Flag water treatment plant is a pilot project initialized within the Dutch Partners for Water program and has the target to give more Indonesian people access to drinking water and to minimize the retraction of ground water.

Therefore AQUA Industrial Watertreatment designed, delivered and installed the so-called Curieau® system at the plant in Pasa Rebo.

The Curieau® system consists basically of the following process steps:

  • Sand filtration: the first treatment step is needed for removal of remaining solids in the effluent of the existing biological waste water treatment plant.
  • Oxidation tank: the second step makes sure any polymer residues are oxidized by means of a chlorination, so these will not be harmful to the rest of the process.
  • Activated carbon filter: to remove any free chlorine residues after the chlorination tank, water is lead through activated carbon.
  • Reverse osmosis installation: water is pressed through special membranes. Only water can pass these membranes: ions and bacteria stay behind.
  • Marble filter: the marble filter adds hardness to the water, to make it potable again.
  • UV disinfection: the last step in the treatment process is UV disinfection to removed any remaining bacteria to prevent biological activity.

PT Frisian Flag Indonesia is very satisfied about the installation. Director Operations Jarig Langhout says: "The water treatment plant is functioning very well and saves a lot of production water. The re-used water quality fully meets our expectations."

The results of the pilot project are very important, as it may minimize the use of ground water in Indonesia, which is rather rare.
Also by re-using water, the lack of water during the dry season will be less.

Arjan den Breejen, Sales Manager of AQUA explains “by saving ground water, costs can be reduced to a minimum and it serves human health by offering potable water. By developing the Curieau technique, AQUA has made important steps for improving the social and economical circumstances”.
