Schlachtbetrieb Sankt Gallen AG (SBAG) Bazenheid is the largest and most modern pig abattoir in Switzerland.
Equipped with a Nirvana CO2 stunner, condensation scalding and F-line robots it can process half a million pigs per year in a very efficient and hygienic way.
In 2003 Fenaco group, Micarna SA, the city of St Gallen and several other meat companies to build a new slaughterhouse in the east of Switzerland. The new, greenfield abattoir should replace three existing slaughterhouses.
The new plant is designed for a capacity of 360 pigs per hour. Year capacity of 500.000 pigs or 43.000 tons per year. Furthermore it should meet the highest possible standards on animal welfare, meat quality, hygiene and ergonomic working positions.
In an early stage of the planning process, the project team decided to implement the MPS F-line robots.
The F-line robots give remarkable good performance on hygiene and yield and became a key component in the slaughter process. Due to good experience of the Nirvana CO2 stunner in an earlier project in Switzerland, the decision for the Nirvana was already taken.
The start-up of the line was in May 2005, one and a half year after beginning of the building construction.

After a few weeks’ period, full capacity and EU approval was reached.
Due to the excellent co-operation and vision of the project team of SBAG in conjunction with the know how and expertise of the design bureau and the MPS project engineers this slaughterhouse has become a guideline for all future projects in the world.
