The industry and, in particular, the food industry is obliged to ensure that wastewater discharged to the sewer has no detrimental effects. Large particles and fats can block the sewer with all the associated consequences for households and other companies that discharge into the same sewer system. In most of cases, the costs of cleaning are reclaimed from the party that caused the problem.
Minimal measures must be taken to prevent the sewers from becoming blocked. Measures range from the use filter baskets in the production process in combination with an elementary static fat trap to systems that remove 60 to 80% of the pollution load. The party that discharges polluted water will usually be charged according to the remaining pollution fraction in the water. Depending on the (structure of the) costs, different systems or units can be supplied, allowing a cost effective solution.
