China: New pork processing line almost ready in Shanghai

"It' s a milestone for Shanghai to centralize and industrialize its pig slaughtering", said Mr Wang Longxing, director of Shanghai Food and Drug Administration Bureau. The city plans to set up two large modern slaughtering facilities by 2006. Located in Jiading, a suburb of Shanghai, the new company is invested jointly by Ng Fung Hong based in Hong Kong and the Shanghai Foods Group, and will cover the operations of pig raising, slaughtering and processing, by-products integration, distribution and retailing, with a total capital investment of CNY 360 million (USD 44 million).
The plant will be equipped with fully automated slaughtering and processing equipment from MPS (Meat Processing Systems) of Holland.
